A Week In The Mouth

Hi everyone, this is the second last blog, and I have to write about travels. Well, I have never traveled abroad, probably because I’m too poor, but maybe this summer I will travel abroad to Argentina. Luckily I have traveled to many places in Chile, especially to the south, like: Osorno, Valdivia, Villarrica, Pucón, Chiloe and Frutillar. Also I have been in some central places like the littoral beaches. Now I’m going to write about my worst journey ever, to “La Boca”.

This happened the last summer. In this travel I went with some friends to a shack placed in La Boca, sixth Region. The misfortune started before we arrive the shack, we were traveling in a bus when suddenly the bus broke down in middle of nowhere. So we had to walk to “Navidad” (A place near to La Boca) where we found another bus, which left us in La Boca.
Finally we were in the shack, sadly, the shack was awful, there was only four beds and we were six, there wasn’t a water heater, the shack was really uncomfortable. Besides La Boca is a boring place. Well, after all we had some fun in that hostile place, but surely I will never come back to there.

I Heart The Lab

Hi, in today’s blog I have to write about my favorite subject in my career: Chemistry and Pharmaceutics. Well, in another blog I wrote that I chose this career because I had to study something, so I was afraid of that maybe I won’t like the career, actually I can’t say if I like or don’t like, because I’m in the first semester, I have six subjetc, and to be honest I only like one of this subjects: Laboratory’s Techniques.
I have this subject every Wednesday, first we have a theoretical class, after that we have a laboratory class where we do what we have seen in the theoretical class. In that subject I learnt how to use many of the laboratory’s pieces, I have done many activitis in the lab: like a chemistry degree, simple distillation, liquid-liquid extraction etc.

I really have fun working in the lab, makes me think that maybe one day I will cook blue meth in a lab on a recreational vehicle in the middle of nowhere….ok I’m not Walter White, but a man can dream … That’s All Folks

Röntgen & The Serendipity

Well, today I have to write about someone I admire related to my career, which is hard to me, because I don’t admire anyone. So after thinking a while I decide to write about Wilhelm Röntgen, because I like the story about his discovery.

Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was a German physicist and engineer; he was born in 27th march 1845, in Lennep, German Confederation. He died in 10th February 1923, in Munich, Germany.

He discovered the X-Rays in 1895. His discovery was by serendipity, he was working with the Hittorff- Crookes tube and with the Ruhmkorff coil because he wanted to find out why the cathode ray has a violet fluorescence. He covered the tube with a cardboard and then he saw a green light which disappear when the tube was off.  Then Röntgen realized that the tube irradiate some invisible ray through some metals. He named the ray as “X-Rays” because he did not know almost anything about the rays. For this achievement he earned the Novel Prize in Physics in 1901.

Nowadays we still use the X-Rays in medicine, to do radiographies, which is really useful to find out if our body is working good and healthy. Well the X-rays can be dangerous to our health; we have to use it with responsibility.

As a funny fact: Röntgen take the first radiography, it was of his wife’s hand, and here is:
